Update, 2:30 p.m.: The barricade situation is over, and residents in the area around Cobalt Drive are allowed to return to their homes.
After lengthy attempts to make contact were unsuccessful, the suspect was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Sgt. Gill said in a news release.
Gill has identified the individual as 23-year-old Dorris Acree of Clarksville. He was out on bond after being charged with first-degree murder in the July 2019 Summit Heights shooting death of 32-year-old Joshua Ellis and attempted murder of Joshua Dix.
In addition to first-degree murder, Acree was facing charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, weapon possession in commission of a felony, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, drugs-felony amount, two counts of simple possession and unlawful drug paraphernalia – all in relation to the Summit Heights shooting.
This is still an active investigation, CPD’s Homicide Unit has started a death investigation, and the scene is being processed by the Crime Scene Team. No officers were injured during the incident, Gill said.
Update, 1:20 p.m.: The suspect is dead, apparently from suicide.
“All of our attempts to get the individual to come out failed,” Sgt. Gill said.
More information will be released shortly.
Update, 9:40 p.m.: Clarksville Police have revised some information they released earlier. The suspect didn’t produce a weapon in any officer’s presence.
“When (the suspect was) called out, an individual exited and told officers that the suspect was armed and inside and would not come out peacefully,” Sgt. Gill said.

Update, 9:05 a.m.: The suspect barricaded in an apartment on Cobalt Drive is out on bond on a homicide charge, according to Gill.
The warrant CPD is currently attempting to serve on the suspect is related to narcotics, Gill said.
No traffic is allowed down Terminal Road, except for some employees of the businesses in that area. Residents of the surrounding apartments on Cobalt Drive are parked at the Tilted Kilt Pub on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard, Gill added.
Gill said that CPD is not releasing the name of the suspect at this time.
