WASHINGTON, D.C. – A recently published Gallup Poll ranks Tennessee seventh on a list of states with low well-being scores.
The poll is based on more than 178,000 interviews with American adults across all 50 states, conducted from January-December 2013. Gallup and Healthways started tracking state-level well-being in 2008.
Each state was evaluated on emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors, and access to basic necessities.
The state’s violent crime rate of 643.6 incidents per 100,000 residents was the highest in the nation in 2012, according to the poll.
West Virginia had the lowest score, with Kentucky following in second place. North and South Dakota took the top two spots for states with the highest well-being.
