BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – For the first time in his career, junior Austin Peay State University defensive back Kordell Jackson was named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week after returning two interceptions for a touchdown Saturday night against Mercer.

In the fourth quarter, the Birmingham, Alabama native put the game on ice with a 69-yard pick-six, becoming the first OVC player since Vincent Sellers in 2017 and the 29th player to tie the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) record with two interceptions returned for a touchdown in the same game.

Jackson also became the first Governor to capture OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors since Nate Howard with a performance that came against Tennessee State October 7, 2018.

He joins Ryan Taylor (2003) and Ronnie Fuqua (1969) as the only players in APSU history with multiple interception returns for touchdown in the same season. He also broke up a pass attempt and registered two solo tackles on the night.

Jackson and the Govs are back in action on the road Sept. 21 as Austin Peay (2-1) travels to take on East Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. in Johnson City.
