CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville Police have charged a man after he displayed a gun during a road rage encounter.
On August 16, around 2:00 p.m., police were notified about a possible road rage situation. Reports indicated a motorcycle and a pickup truck appeared to be chasing each other.
The two vehicles were observed running a red light. Officer Weissing spotted the vehicles and attempted to pull over both vehicles. The 48-year-old male pickup truck driver complied. The motorcycle rider initially stopped, but then fled the scene.
The motorcycle rider, Reginald Nesmith, was finally stopped later on Providence Blvd after attaining a speed of approximately 85 mph.
The road rage stemmed from the motorcycle rider and pickup driver’s interaction on Ft Campbell Blvd.
The pickup driver stated the motorcyclist was driving recklessly, almost causing multiple crashes. The motorcyclist said the pickup driver had tried to run him off the road. During the verbal altercation which ensued, allegedly, the motorcycle rider displayed a handgun, placing the pickup driver in fear for his safety.
When the pickup driver left the scene, the motorcyclist followed until police attempted to stop both vehicles.
The pickup driver stopped, but the motorcyclist chose not to stay. When the motorcyclist was stopped, a handgun, rolling papers, marijuana, and a large amount of cash were found in Nesmith’s possession.
Reginald Nesmith, 34, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Reckless Driving, Evading, Simple Possession, and Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $52,500.
