STEWART COUNTY, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – School buses will roll and classes will take place at Stewart County schools on Wednesday while murder suspect Kirby Wallace is still at large.
Deputies will escort school buses driving routes through the Indian Mound area and will supervise the loading and unloading of children, according to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Department.
The district said this week that Indian Mound school buses will be followed by Stewart County deputies the entire bus route, including Bus #6, Bus #15, Bus #30, Bus #35 & Bus #69.
Director of Stewart County Schools Leta Joiner said the school system believes students are safer at school than at home.
In Montgomery County, Woodlawn Elementary and Liberty Elementary remain on lockout status until otherwise notified.
Police are positioned at the two elementary schools. Bus routes north of the search area are being accompanied by law enforcement.
Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) spokesperson Elise Shelton said law enforcement is stationed at both elementary schools and is screening anyone who comes in our out. Children will not be allowed outside until the end of the school day.
Deputies from Stewart and Montgomery Counties, the THP and TBI continue searching for Kirby Wallace.
He has been on the run since last week and is now suspected in a second murder Monday morning.
