CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Montgomery County Veterans Coalition held its monthly meeting discussing donations, legislation and local nonprofits on April 18, 2018 at Veterans Plaza.
The guest speaker, Sonya Abrams, discussed her and her husband’s non-profit organization ‘After Deployment’. She discussed the various workshops offered by her non-profit including meditation, problem solving, woodworking and journaling. The workshop groups are small and they take place in a classroom setting. HB2130 by VanHuss (SB2030 by Green) As introduced, creates Class A misdemeanor offense of criminal impersonation of a member or veteran of uniformed service when person pretends to be member or veteran for purpose of obtaining money, services, property, or other tangible benefit. Signed by Governor
HB1956 by Rogers (SB1927 by Briggs) As enacted, adds a representative for military veteran recipients to be appointed as a member of the statewide planning and policy council, state regents, and Comp. became Pub. Ch. 732 and Comp. became Pub. Ch. 841
HB1496 by Pitts (SB1675 by Green) As enacted, provides continued eligibility for an elderly low-income, disabled, and disabled veteran’s property tax relief during temporary periods of relocation for health care to home of a friend or relative or to a hospital or skilled intermediate care facility if the homeowner intends to return to the residence once recovered. Comp. became Pub. Ch. 710
SB2004 by Tate (HB2657 by Camper) As introduced, authorizes the Tennessee state veterans’ homes
board to name, subject to the governor’s approval, the campus, buildings, facilities, and grounds of any state veterans’ home; authorizes the administrator of each veterans’ home to name any portion of the state veterans’ home. Def. to Summer Study
Montgomery County Veteran Coalition also received a donation from Su and Randy Whetsell with Chief Knows Ft. Campbell Reality. The Whetsell’s have pledged to donate .5 % of their business profits to our Coalition.
