CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A young family is struggling this week as a husband, soldier, and father of five recovers from a series of severe injuries from a recent motorcycle crash on Fort Campbell Blvd.

Nick Sprowl, a soldier with the 101st HHC Sustainment Brigade at Fort Campbell, was injured in a crash involving another vehicle last Thursday.

Police said a female driver pulled out of the Rural King parking lot in the path of Sprowl’s oncoming bike as he was traveling to Fort Campbell that morning. The driver has not been identified.

Sprowl was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he is currently in the trauma unit, according to his wife Stephanie.

He is suffering from two punctured lungs, three broken ribs, a broken jaw, neck and back injuries, fractured arms, lacerated internal organs, and a possible traumatic brain injury. He has already undergone multiple surgeries.

Sprowl’s wife says he was wearing a full face helmet at the time of the crash, but it flew off on impact.

“He’s a very cautious and careful rider,” she said.

Stephanie will be unable to work for some time as she cares for Nick. This has placed significant strain on the family, whose children are ages 2, 3, 6, 8, and 12.

Nick’s motorcycle club, the Iron Rockets, has established a GoFundMe page to help Stephanie with the mounting bills and expenses she now faces.

“It would definitely help a lot. I’m going to be out of work for a while to care for him throughout this whole process. We have a very long road ahead of us,” Stephanie said.

She hopes making the public aware of the extent of Nick’s injuries will persuade others to drive carefully.

“People need to be made aware and really need to pay attention because my kids and myself, we need my husband,” she said. “It really stinks that on account of somebody not paying attention and thinking that they had enough time to pull out in front of an oncoming bike, we’re in this position and our lives have been changed dramatically.”

Those interested in helping the Sprowl family can make a donation through the GoFundMe account.
