CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Police re-routed traffic around Northwest High School Thursday morning as they conducted an investigation into a possible homicide.

A body was discovered on school property early Thursday and police investigators were on the scene since around 6 a.m. after receiving a call of shots being fired in the area. Clarksville Police Sgt. Charles Gill stated, “It appears that this has no involvement with any high school staff or students.”

Gill would not say who discovered the body. The victim has been identified as Daniel Lamar Reed, 38. A Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

Students were being kept in the gymnasium while police secured the area and to account for all students.

Elise Shelton, spokesperson for Clarksville Montgomery County Schools, said Principal Bryan Johnson will address faculty on the matter later today.

Northwest High School is located at 800 Lafayette Road.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance with this case. Anyone who knows of Reed’s whereabouts prior to the shooting that occurred shortly before 2 a.m. can contact any of the Homicide Detectives at the Special Operations Unit at (931) 648-0656, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (931) 645-TIPS (8477).
