CADIZ, Ky. (WKRN) – A woman was killed Tuesday night when her car was swept away by flood waters in Trigg County, Kentucky.

It happened on Blackhawk Road in Cadiz, Kentucky around 8 p.m.

Her vehicle was located about two hours later about 3,000 feet downstream in an area below Tyler Road in Trigg County.

Strong storms moved through portions of Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky Tuesday afternoon, causing power outages and flooding across the area.

Rescue crews recovered her body around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. One of her family members was reportedly among the rescuers who helped find her.

The victim was identified at 61-year-old Nancy Hyde Fox, who had been visiting her brother for his birthday and was headed to her home just a few miles away.  She is the mother of Trigg County Rescue Squad Chief Barry Fox, who worked on the rescue and recovery effort.

The coroner in Trigg County says Fox likely died of blunt-force trauma.

Blackhawk Road remains closed for about a half mile on each side. The sinkhole left behind was said to be 60 feet across and 20 feet deep.

Engineers are expected to return to the scene to assess the damage on Wednesday.
