CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Volunteers are needed to help build a large, tiered flower bed at Patriots Park, September 5 from 7-9 a.m. as part of the nationwide volunteer effort called “September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance”.

The 2013 9/11 Serve to Remember Days of Service offers citizens in the community an opportunity to make a difference and honor our military and their families during the annual service event. Clarksville is one of 13 cities across the country recognized by the Corporation for National and Community Service 9/11 Day of Service Challenge in 2011.

The goal of this project is to increase visibility and draw attention to the retaining wall with the name “Patriots Park,” which is passed daily by thousands of northbound commuters – many of them soldiers and military family members – on Highway 41A/Fort Campbell Boulevard near Fort Campbell’s Gate 3.

Deanna McLaughlin has planned the project together with military spouse and landscape designer Cher Powers and Rita Arancibia with Hands on Clarksville.

Materials have been donated by Budweiser of Clarksville, Rural King, Winn Materials, Bi-County Waste, Bill Summers, Lowes Madison Street, Lowes on Lowes Drive, Montgomery County Farmer’s Co-Op, Jim Durrett, Don and Marita Beck.

For more information on how you can volunteer, or to find out what items are needed, or to make a donation, visit the Clarksville 9/11 We Serve to Remember Days of Service Facebook page or contact Rita Arancibia at 931-551-5450. Volunteers can also sign up here.
