CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Veterans Coalition held its monthly meeting on May 17, 2017.

Presenter for the month was Mr. Brad Kirkman, spokesperson for Cumberland Hall Hospital located in Hopkinsville, KY. Cumberland Hall offers specialized treatment for children, adolescents and adults through acute and sub-acute inpatient programs. They are able to treat the following conditions: depression, anxiety, self-injury homicidal/suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and traumatic stress. They also have specialized programs and services that are designed to meet the needs of the active duty soldiers, veterans, and their family members.

Work on the Welcome Home Celebration continues, to include new events, sponsors and other ways to honor our veterans. The Disabled Veterans Property Tax Relief was passed and is finally restored to its original amounts. Mr. Steve Singleton, POC for the MCVC, legislative arm, reported on several national bills. Two such bills are as follows: Senate 925 Vet Act 2017-authorizes inter-state licensed health professionals to use telemedicine to assist veterans. This bill was assigned to a congressional committee on April 25, 2017 which will consider it before possibly sending it on to the House or Senate as a whole; Senate 926 Vet Treatment Act Court Act of 2017- A Bill to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to hire additional Veterans Justice Outreach Specialist to provide treatment court serves to justice-involved veterans and for other purposes.
