CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – In another sign of the surge in economic growth in Clarksville, the Industrial Development Board recently heard updates on 10 active construction projects in the Industrial Park.
Here’s the lates on six of those projects, in order of their projected opening dates.
1. Access road: April 2024. The access road in the South Industrial Park would go behind a health clinic and a set of restaurant parcels to give a second connection between International Boulevard and Rossview Road. The road has recently been named Aspire Way. Premier Medical is planning to open the health clinic. Restaurants already located there are Waffle House, Taco John’s, Burger King and Popeye’s, with more being recruited to help serve the employees of nearby Hankook Tire and other industries.
2. Childcare facility: Summer 2024. The 800-enrollment facility is designed to serve employees of the Industrial Park. The Youth Academy will operate the facility, and 400 of the 800 childcare slots will be reserved for Industrial Park employees. The 18-acre site is off Exit 8 and International Boulevard. Plans include extended care, school transportation, playgrounds and a swimming pool.
3. Kewpie: Fourth quarter 2024. Japanese food condiment producer Kewpie is building a food production plant here for its full line of condiments, mayonnaise, salad dressings and sauces. The Clarksville site will initially offer 85 jobs, with 55 jobs online by 2025, with an average starting pay of $25.87 per hour.
4. Dongwha: Third quarter 2025. The $70 million Dongwha manufacturing plant will produce electrolyte, a critical component in electric vehicle batteries. The plant on Guthrie Highway will create 68 new jobs that will pay between $55,000 and $150,000 per year.
5. LG Chem: Third quarter, 2025. The $3.2 billion LG Chem project is the second largest industrial investment in state history, bringing 860 jobs, 200 of those paying six-figure salaries. Another 300 spin-off jobs are anticipated. LG Chem, located on 80 acres, will produce cathode, another critical material in EV batteries. They already have a 10-year, $18.61 billion deal to supply materials to GM.
6. Hankook Tire expansion: Third quarter 2025. The Hankook Tire plant plans to more than double its production from 5 million tires to 11 million ties per year. Located at 1950 International Blvd., the plant currently has about 1,100 employees. After the expansions, it will employ over 2,200, making it the largest private employer in Clarksville.
The four other projects are Google, which is under strict security measures; a private-option development; a pad being reserved for a possible aviation prospect; and the south park project that includes the possible Premier Health clinic.
In all, about 2,500 construction workers are actively working on sites in the Industrial Park, according to IDB VP for Industrial Development Josh Ward. Those workers alone are generating additional revenue for area hotels, retail and restaurant sectors.
