CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Two men have been arrested and charged in connection to a major hemp theft from a farm in Stewart County.
According to an arrest warrant, Joshua Joe Pogue was caught on surveillance footage stealing about $1,200 worth of hemp while driving a gray Chevy Impala and armed with a semi-automatic pistol on Oct. 22.
The other suspect, Tyson Floyd Carrell, was allegedly in the vehicle with Pogue at the time of the crime.
The hemp farmer chased the suspects over the Montgomery County line and once they got near 4830 St. Paul Road, the suspects reportedly shot at the farmer with a pistol several times.
Authorities later determined the Impala was stolen and used that information to search Pogue’s apartment on Madison Street, where they found the clothing and the pistol used during the theft, as well as some of the stolen hemp.
The victim confirmed that Pogue and Carrell were the suspects he had seen in the stolen Impala.
On Oct. 16, about a week before the hemp theft, a deputy was alerted to a stolen Chevy Impala on Hwy 48 near Gary Mathews Motors. The vehicle turned onto the 41A Bypass and the deputy followed in an attempt to pull over the driver (later identified as Pogue) but he fled and nearly caused a crash while driving recklessly and running a red light, among other traffic infractions. A warrant was then placed for Pogue’s arrest.
Pogue has criminal history in both Tennessee and Kentucky. He was arrested Nov. 24 and charged with aggravated assault, auto theft, property theft, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, no insurance, and no valid license. His bond was set at $376,000.
Tyson Floyd Carrell is already in custody after being arrested earlier this month. Carrell also has criminal history in Montgomery County. No further information about other possible suspects is available at this time.
