NASHVILLE, Tenn. – More teenagers escaped from the Woodland Hills Youth Detention Center in Nashville Wednesday night after more than 30 had escaped from the same facility Monday.
WKRN News 2 reports that around 11 p.m., five teens escaped by kicking out metal plates in the windows weakened by the first escape and five more followed. The teens rioted, breaking windows and setting off a fire extinguisher. The rest of the escaped teens were outside but were not responsible for the riot.
Two guards were injured during the riot and one was hit with a stick.
Officials had the situation under control by 3 a.m. and the 10 teens were transported to another detention center. None of the teens made it off the property. They will face minor charges for assault and property damage.
Six of the 32 teens who escaped Monday are still at large. Read the original story here.
DCS says this is the first time in 24 years they have experienced consecutive breakouts. The facility is currently understaffed and staff members are not allowed to use force.
Woodland Hills has 28 job openings and 14 are for correctional officers. Officials hope to install new doors, cement barriers, and alarm systems to prevent future breakouts
