CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Search warrants were served at Oak Plains Academy Thursday morning as the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigates the overdose deaths of two teenage girls at the facility.

With the assistance of the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the warrants were served at Oak Plains Academy, 1751 Oak Plains Road, in east Montgomery County.

“Investigators were able to obtain several items from the facility that they believe will aid in their investigation into the deaths of two juveniles earlier this month,” said MCSO Sgt. Bishop Delaney.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information has been released.

Overdose deaths

In the late evening of Nov. 28, the two 15-year-old girls were able to make entry through the bottom part of a “Dutch” style door in the nurse’s station and gain access to a bottle and several blister packs of Benadryl, an over-the-counter medication, according to previous reports.

Throughout the course of the night and into the morning, both girls took an undetermined amount of the medication, the release said.

During morning classes on Nov. 29, both became ill and fell unconscious. Oak Plains staff gave the girls CPR until emergency services arrived.

Both girls were transported to medical facilities, and one was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other died the next day.

Oak Plains Academy, formerly known as The Chad Youth Enhancement Center, is a residential treatment facility that provides behavioral health services to children and youth ages 5–17.
