CLARKSVILLE, TN – Thanks to rapid construction in the area and increased traffic on a narrow two-lane path, the city has dropped the speed limit on Needmore Road to a consistent 35 mph for the entire length of the roadway.
“Safety was the primary concern as the roadway has seen a dramatic increase in volume over the past few years,” Clarksville Police Lt. Charles Gill said Friday. “Prior to this change, the speed limit varied in different locations. The limit is now uniform from Wilma Rudolph to Tiny Town Road.
The Clarksville Street Department has installed new signs posting a 35 mph limit, and in coming weeks CPD will being high-visibility enforcement in the area.
There is a plan to widen the northern end of Needmore, from East Boy Scout Road up to Tiny Town, with three to five lanes of travel, plus sidewalks and a new traffic signal at Hazelwood Road. This project, at a cost of $15.5 million, is in Tier 1 of the city’s Transportation 2020+ plan.
