CLARKSVILLE, TN – This year, Special Olympics Tennessee is completing a statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run carrying the Flame of Hope across the state. Their goal is to have the entire state completed by end of July 2021.

Retired Chief Joe Casey, Metro Nashville Police Department, has been a longtime supporter of Special Olympics and instrumental in bringing the Law Enforcement Torch Run into a global movement. To honor his commitment, they are hosting a Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run in 2021. They are running the Flame of Hope across Tennessee with a goal of completing the entire state by the end of July.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, Special Olympics Tennessee is unable to host the annual State Summer Games. Plans are underway for three Regional Summer Games, which will allow for the opportunity for more Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners to participate in this year’s events. Proceeds from the statewide run will support the more than 18,000 Special Olympics athletes across the state.

The Clarksville Police Department has a longstanding partnership with the Tennessee Special Olympics and has been part of several of their fundraising efforts over the years; to include Tip-A-Cop and Polar Plunge events.

This Friday, May 21, at 9 a.m., the Clarksville Police Department will continue that partnership by having several officers participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run that will begin at CPD Headquarters and end in Cheatham County.
