CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Sigma Beta Club of Clarksville visited the State Capitol and Museum recently.
During the hour-long guided tour of the State Capitol, members learned about the building’s history and the important events that occurred there. Members also learned about some of the people buried in and around the Capitol, including William Strickland, the architect who designed many state capitols across the nation. The SBC also toured the Tennessee House Chambers, where many Tennessee laws are enacted; the old Supreme Court Chambers; the Senate Chambers; and the State Library.
After a quick lunch, the Sigma Beta Club of Clarksville enjoyed another guided tour through the State Museum, where they learned about the history of African Americans in Tennessee and the important part Tennesseans played in the Civil Rights movement. After the guided tour, members spent the rest of the time touring the museum’s vast number of exhibits.
“This was a chance for our members to see some of the history that they hear about from their family members, or learned of in books. We offer these young men a chance to see what types of opportunities are available to them and how close they are to being able to make a change, not only in the State of Tennessee, but across the nation and possibly across the world,” said Eddie Brown, Director of the Sigma Beta Club of Clarksville.
