CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Being a hometown business is something that is very important to Dr. Catherine Shevlin Meeks of Sango Pharmacy. Meeks opened her business in 2013 with the idea that Clarksville needed a little something different especially on the south side of town.
Meeks has been a pharmacist for nine years and talked about why she chose that profession. “I really enjoy helping others take care of themselves. I really like educating my patients on their health care and pharmacy was a great venue for me to do that,” said Meeks.
When the pharmacy first opened its doors Meeks said it was a way for customers to get their prescriptions filled and take care of their health care needs. Since then the store has evolved into a natural food source for people with supplements and vitamins.
The business of course still uses traditional medicine but Meeks adds that a lot of traditional medicine today is food and that is a big part of what they do which are the natural aspects of medicine and pharmacy.
Education is a big part of what they do at Sango Pharmacy letting patients know about their medicines or other options for their medications and they also do a lot of cost savings for their patients. They also deliver medications, hold flu shot clinics and offer a full line of immunizations.
One thing that Meeks said many people have trouble overcoming is that when you come to a small business you’re going to be charged more money. “It is important for our community for people to support small and local businesses as much as they can,” Meeks said.
Meeks pointed to the fact that a lot of the products they carry are for people who have said they are ordering something online and if it’s available at the pharmacy, they’ll get it there. Meeks added the support of the community has been a huge part of the success of Sango Pharmacy.
For the future of Sango Pharmacy there are plans for expansion. Meeks said they will continue to pursue the natural and wellness side of health care, trying to make people aware of their health, how important it is what they eat and how much physical activity they have.
Meeks also talked about a community event coming up September 16. Sango Pharmacy is hosting a nighttime 5K run with all of the proceeds going to “Be the Match”.
