CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Following the retirement of Todd Hood last week, Rossview High Athletics announced today the promotion of Stratie Young, who will take over as the Hawks’ head football coach moving forward. Young spent last season serving as the Hawks’ defensive coordinator under Hood.
Young, a Lexington, Mississippi, native, went to Alcorn State for college and from there he joined the military. While stationed at Fort Campbell, Young graduated from Austin Peay State University.
He has since made numerous coaching stops throughout his career, which includes time at West Valley High School in Alaska and Buena High School in Arizona, and he also previously spent time at Rossview as their offensive coordinator from 2017-19 before having to step away due to health concerns.
“It was funny, when I came to Tennessee, I was looking for a head coaching job in Clarksville,” Young told Clarksville Now. “There were five opening, and I didn’t get any of them. My son, Stratie Young Jr., played at Rossview High under Hood, so I would just hang around practices. Coach Hood jokingly told me that he would put me to work, not knowing I was looking for an opportunity. Luckily, I had my resume, and Hood gave me my first start in Clarksville.”

When he was first hired on as part of Hood’s staff in 2017, Young coached quarterbacks, then made the move to offensive coordinator the following season. After his leave of absence from the team, Hood invited Young back to the Hawks program in 2024, which is when he became the defensive coordinator. Now, he’s looking to take the Rossview football program to new heights.
“This program is capable of taking it to the next level,” Young said. “We’ve had some opportunities to be in the playoffs, now it’s time to win when we get to the playoffs. That starts with developing players. There are a lot of athletes in this school; as you can see from the runs we’ve had with basketball and baseball at this school, my intent is to encourage multi-sport athletes to come out and play and become one big family across all sports.”
