CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The staff at Willy’s Happy Endings Rescue is offering a $500 reward, along with an additional $750 from supporters in the community, for any information regarding the individual responsible for the abuse of a dog that is currently in their care.
According to a post on the organization’s Facebook page, witnesses say that on the morning of October 17, a gray or silver Ford Ranger was driving by the The Garden Place on Woodlawn Road when a dog jumped or fell out of the bed of the truck. They claim that as they rushed over to help the animal, the driver of the truck turned around as if to come back, but did not stop when he saw them with the dog.
The driver of the truck is described as a heavy set black male.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control later took reports at the scene, and Willy’s Happy Endings was called to provide treatment and shelter for the animal.
The dog, Phoenix, had visibly deep cuts to his neck when he was taken in, and those working at the rescue believe he suffered at the end of a choke chain collar, “likely for his whole life,” which progressively caused more pain and deep tissue damage as he grew.
Phoenix now has a systemic infection, is emaciated, heartworm positive, and has road rash. He is a five year old Chow Chow German Shepherd mix.
Those with any information on the driver of the truck or his whereabouts should contact Willy’s Happy Endings at 931-217-4495 and Animal Control at 931-648-5750.
