CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The results are in, and Republican Bill Powers has been elected to represent District 22 in the TN State Senate.

Bill Powers (R): 52.4% (5,668 total votes)
Juanita Charles (D): 45.8% (4,950 total votes)
Doyle Clark (I): 0.9% (100 total votes)
David L. Cutting (I): 0.7% (80 total votes)
Write-In: 0.1% (16 total votes)

According to the Election Commission, only 9 percent of the 113,109 registered voters in Montgomery County participated in the election.

The District 22 Senate seat was recently vacated by Mark Green, who won the 7th District Congressional Election in November.

On March 7, special primaries were held for both political parties. Bill Powers was chosen to be the Republican candidate, and Juanita Charles was the Democratic candidate.

On January 14 the Montgomery County Commission voted to appoint Rosalind Kurita as the interim Tennessee Senator until a special election is held.

The District 22 State Senate seat represents constituents in Montgomery, Houston and Stewart Counties.

The people have chosen the right leader for their district and I have no doubt that Bill will make a great state senator.”
