CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Renee Bruens, a public health educator and community advocate, has announced her candidacy for Montgomery County Commission, District 20.

Bruens is running on a commitment to well-planned growth, stronger infrastructure, transparency, and responsive local government.

“District 20 is growing, but growth has to be responsible,” Bruens said. “Our roads, stormwater systems, public services, and neighborhoods must be part of the conversation before new development is approved. Not after when our residents are already dealing with the consequences.”

Bruens’ decision to run was shaped in part by her experience advocating for her neighborhood after severe flooding in 2025. The experience strengthened her commitment to ensuring residents have a voice in decisions that affect their homes, families, and quality of life.

Bruens currently serves as a public health educator and brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in public health, housing, property management, hospitality and community services. Her background includes building community partnerships, pursuing grant funding, managing contracts and budgets, and connecting residents with resources.

She is a member of the Leadership Clarksville Class of 2026 and was recently selected for the Leadership CMCSS Class of 2027. Bruens is also active in the Clarksville Rotary Club and has served in many other neighborhood and community leadership roles.

A military spouse and mother of two, Bruens says her household reflects many of the residents she hopes to represent: working families, veterans, and the next generation.
