CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Government is looking for the County Commission to authorize the execution of four road infrastructure projects during the month of September. This includes one project that the county received $4.7 million for from the State of Tennessee for State Route 374.

According to the County Commission’s informal September agenda, the four road infrastructure projects include:

  • State Route 374 from State Route 76 / US 79 to Dotsonville Road.
  • State Route 49 project.
  • Excell Road intersection project.
  • Attaway and Seven Mile Ferry Road project.

State Route 374 to Dotsonville Road

According to county documents obtained by Clarksville Now, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) allocated funding to Montgomery County in the amount of more than $4.7 million for the State Route 374 project.

“TN-374 is a state route, and there are current plans to extend it through the Dotsonville area and beyond,” said MC Highway Department spokesperson Joshua Peltz. “This extension would help alleviate traffic congestion while giving commuters and commercial traffic an additional route toward downtown and Fort Campbell, as well as toward Stewart County.

“The county and TDOT are working together right now to develop a plan for obtaining the necessary rights-of-way to make this project a reality. Projects of this scope are often years in the making, and we are still in the very early stages of the process,” Peltz said.

With the assistance of the Clarksville Urbanized Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, Montgomery County was also able to secure a $1.5 million Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG).

The Montgomery County Commission previously approved $500,000 in the FY 2027 Capital Project Budget for this project, of which $300,000 is the required 20% match for the STBG funding. “The remaining $200,000 will be used for the preliminary design and the right-of-way phase,” said the resolution.

Both funding streams from the state and the STBG funds will be used to reimburse Montgomery County as expenditures are incurred on the project; “Therefore, both the revenues and expenditures of said funds need to be included in the FY 2027 Capital Projects budget,” the resolution said.

State Route 48 project

Additional county documents show a resolution going before the County Commission to approve the design and complete engineering services related to the improvement of intersection configurations and line of sight around State Route 48 / Belmont Road and State Route 48 / River Road.

The project has been fully funded in the amount of $305,000 as approved in the FY 2026-27 budget.

Excell Road intersection project

Improvements at the intersection of Excell Road and Highway 12 are also proposed for execution.

“The Montgomery County Commission esablished a budget for the payment and expenditure of all funds to design and complete a roadway design and improvement at Excell Road and Highway 12,” said the resolution.

The project has been fully funded in the amount of more than $1.8 million for FY 2026-27.

Attaway and Seven Mile Ferry Road project

Lastly, as another part of their FY 2026-27 budget, the County Commission also budgeted for the design and complete engineering services related to the roadway re-alignment of the Attaway Road and Seven Mile Ferry Road intersections at State Route 48/13.

The project has been fully funded in the amount of $165,000, according to the resolution.

What’s next

The Montgomery County Commission will meet on Monday, Sept. 14, to vote on the execution of the four road infrastructure projects, among other considerations.
