Update, 7:20 a.m.: The vehicle and driver have been identified, and the roadway is back open, police said.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A pedestrian was critically injured by a hit-and-run driver early Friday morning on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
At about 3:20 a.m., a Clarksville Police officer traveling north on Wilma stopped to assist a motorist who was stopped in the middle of the highway with his hazard lights on, according to police spokesman Scott Beaubien. The motorist told the officer there was a pedestrian lying in the middle of the highway.

The pedestrian was unconscious but breathing and had wounds on the back of his head. He was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Nashville, and the status of his injuries has not been released.
Fatal Accident Crash Team investigators are processing the scene. The northbound lanes of Wilma were shut down at South Hampton Place and North Edgewood Place and will remain so until the scene can be processed. Traffic is being diverted through Governors Square Mall. CPD is recommending motorists find an alternate route.
CPD is looking for a black vehicle with minor damage that may have left the scene. No further information has been released.
