CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Northwest High School’s Athletic Department is pleased to share that senior baseball player, Jordan Smith, has committed to play baseball at Southwest Community College located in Memphis, TN.

Jordan signed his commitment paperwork in a signing ceremony held earlier this month at Northwest High School.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to go play with a team that will have a great program. The coaches and the atmosphere are great. They know what they are doing and they have a really nice place to do it,” he said.

Jordan is a four-year member of the Vikings Baseball team, serving predominantly as a pitcher and short stop. He hit .372 last year with 18 RBIs. He had six wins on the mound with a 2.89 ERA. Jordan has been named as a member of the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association’s Region 5 showcase team. In 2018, Jordan was a member of the 10-AAA All-District team as well as a member of the Leaf Chronicle All Area team.

Vikings Baseball Head Coach, Chris Benne, praised Jordan’s success.

“I am incredibly excited for the young man to have the opportunity to go play in college<" Benne said. "He has given his all for four years to our program, literally putting his arm on the line to put Northwest baseball on the map. I grew up around his family; I really feel like coaching him has been like growing up and playing ball with his uncle. Getting to see this opportunity for him to play college baseball and fulfill his dream means the world to me. He is going to do excellent at Southwest. Southwest is getting one of the best young baseball players in the southeast.”

“Northwest is proud of Jordan and his work over the past four years as a Viking baseball player," Northwest Athletic Director Jessica Peppard said. "We anticipate that he will accomplish great things at Southwest Community College and look forward to seeing him accomplish his goals. We wish him the best of luck as he moves on to the next level.”
