CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kirkwood Cobras traveled to Richellen Park for a rematch with the Clarksville Christian Centurions softball team on Tuesday night. A three-hit and four RBI performance from first baseman Brooke Storz and a complete game shutout from McKenzie Johnson led Kirkwood to a 10-0 mercy rule win in five innings.
The Cobras scratched one across in each of the first four innings, courtesy of RBIs from Sophia Lucas and Storz, but the bats really came alive in the fifth. A six-run fifth inning, capped off by Illiana Conley’s 2 RBI double to end the contest, ended the game early due to the mercy rule. On the defensive end, the Cobras only allowed one runner in scoring position, off the back of Johnson’s pitching.

“We played good ball at times, we just never strung good things together,” said Centurions head coach Travis Cocke. “We’ve played a lot of the top talent and been tested, and to be able to compete with these teams with only 10girls on our roster and some in middle school, that’s a blessing. The future is bright for these girls.”

The Cobras are having a successful third season in program history, looking to defend their District 13-4A title from last season. This win came after a nine-inning barnburner with Clarksville High on Monday night, where the Cobras fell by one, and they were exhausted, but they managed to find a way to win.
For head coach Kelli Storz and crew. These last few weeks of the regular season are all about growth. “We’re mentally and physically worn out, but they gave me 100% of what they had left,” said Storz. “They dug deep and found a way. Defensively, we did a good job of shutting it down early. They got the job done, and now it’s time to rest and get ready for Thursday.”
