CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The wreck that shut down Interstate 24 on Sunday involved a motorcycle that flipped, seriously injuring the rider.

At about 5 p.m., members of a local motorcycle club were riding in a staggered formation eastbound on I-24 near mile marker 2, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report obtained by Clarksville Now.

A 41-year-old Clarksville man riding a 2008 Fleet Cruiser went off the roadway and into the median on the left side. The motorcycle flipped several times in the median.

The rider was ejected on the first roll. He was wearing a helmet, but still suffered several serious injuries, including fractures and severe injuries to the head, according to the crash report.

He was transported to Tristar Skyline hospital in Nashville.

Fellow club riders blamed grooves in the roadway for the crash, but THP is still investigating.
