CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was awarded its Tier 1 Accreditation on December 3, 2025, by the Tennessee Corrections Institute. This marks a tremendous milestone for the Sheriff’s Office and the commitment of the staff of the Detention Services Bureau in meeting the newly enhanced standards.
Under state law, the Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI) is required to establish minimum standards for detention facilities across the state. In addition to the minimum standards, TCI developed optional Tier 1 and Tier 2 standards in 2021. To meet the standards for a Tier 1 Accreditation, the Sheriff’s Office was required to comply with 25 corresponding standards, comprised of 5 mandatory standards and 20 optional standards.
This award signifies a bureau-wide commitment to our constitutional and statutory requirements, thereby guaranteeing due process, improving inmate quality of life, and advancing legitimate penological interests. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office voluntarily adopted accreditation to improve access to evidence-based inmate programming to help ensure inmates’ successful reentry into society, reducing recidivism in our community.
