MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – Recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that Montgomery County is the second fastest-growing county in Tennessee.

Population estimates jumped from 184,119 in July 1 2013 to 189,961 in July 2014, which is an increase of 2.8 percent.

Williamson County was the fastest-growing county in Tennessee during that same time period with an increase of 3.1 percent.

On a national scale, Montgomery County is ranked as the 53rd fastest-growing county in the U.S.

Montgomery County’s population stood at 172,337 during the official census in April 2010.

County Mayor Jim Durrett views this growth as positive for the community.

“It just shows that we’re still growing and how vibrant our economy is,” he said. “Clarksville-Montgomery County has a whole lot to offer, and I think the census just shows that people like it here. We have affordable housing and we have a great education system. We have new industry that’s locating here and creating new jobs. I think it is great news.”

Mayor Durrett acknowledged that increased growth puts demands on the school system and public safety, but believes these are obstacles that can be dealt with appropriately.

“We need to be proactive as opposed to reactive of our growth. I think we’re going to continue to see growth here if we keep doing things the right way,” he said.
