CLARKSVILLE, TN – A week after cracking the top eight in Tennessee at TSSAA Duals State Championships, the Montgomery Central boys wrestling team earned a three-peat as region 7 champs at individual regionals Saturday at Cheatham County High School. The team also advanced 13 of 14 wrestlers to the sectional championships next weekend in Millington. In most weight classes, wrestlers had to place in the top four to advance to the next round.

The Indians had six wrestlers reach the finals and four champions as Wesley Sudderth dominated the 106-weight class with a 20-2 technical fall in the finals, Tamarion Johnson beat regional Wrestler of the Year Tanner Aldridge 13-8 in the 150-pound finals in a battle of #2 vs. #3 in the state. At 190, Cayson Rasch continued his stellar season with a regional title by defeating Fairview’s Julius Carter by fall, and sophomore star Zach “Hulk” Nord won the title at 215 with a fall over Fairview opponent Wyatt Langford. 126-pound Jack Levendusky also made the finals, falling to rival Magnus Johnson 5-3 and placing second, and 175-pound Josh Hodges forfeited his finals match after he qualified for the top 4 with a big win in the semis over Sycamore’s Michael Long, an athlete he’d lost to twice before Saturday.
Other qualifiers for Central were Gavin Holt (120), Caden Figueroa (144), Alex Babuscio (157), Wyatt Koffer (165), and Aiden Buckley (285), who all took 3rd; and Aden Perkins (113) and Tommy Lacroix (138) who both took 4th.
Holt, a junior, and Lacroix, a senior, both earned spots on the postseason roster for the first time in their careers by winning wrestle-offs against teammates. Babuscio, a senior and captain, is also on his first varsity and postseason roster after being a backup the last few years to state medalists Jeremy Mills, Craig Sudderth, and Reese Levendusky. Babuscio’s older brother Ryan was a two-time state qualifier in 2022 and 2023, and he aims to join him by earning his own trip to the State Championships February 20-21.

Indians head coach Derek Levendusky won the regional Coach of the Year award and Tamarion Johnson won the award for best finals match.
