CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery Central High School forward Marquice Crutcher has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week following a pair of double doubles during the week of Dec. 19.
The Indians came up short during both of their contests last week, but Crutcher remained a bright spot for the team. Montgomery Central faced Hart County to open the week on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Hart County controlled the matchup and won 59-41, but they struggled stopping Crutcher.
Crutcher said he started the game slow, but after one quarter of play he was able to establish himself. The forward finished the game with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.
The Indians’ second game of the week was also played on Wednesday, Dec 21. After their loss to Hart County, they traveled to Russellville, Kentucky, to take on Logan County on a neutral site. Crutcher didn’t miss a beat and carried his momentum into the game.
The forward posted another double-double during the Indians second loss of the night. Crutcher totaled 18 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and recorded his first-ever in-game dunk.
2022-23 season
Crutcher has been a monster on the glass for the majority of the season. He’s also proved a reliable scoring threat. Through their first 11 games, the Montgomery Central forward averaged 11.5 points per game and 9 rebounds per game.
Crutcher is also an underrated passer for the Indians. He’s averaged 3.5 assists per game during the 2022-23 season.
“This season has meant so much to me personally,” said Crutcher. “I’m trying to get my name out there and move my game to the next level. Also, with the number of key players missing, we’re just trying to really play as a team for the rest of the season. Coach Brown has reminded us of how important it is to stay positive, stay together and play for one another.”
Coaches corner
“What makes Marquice such a special player is his energy and positive attitude,” said Montgomery Central Head Coach Mike Brown. “We’ve had a lot of injuries this season and I’ve never seen this kind of luck, but he’s been one of our bright spots.
“He’s been continuously cheerful this season and he’s been extremely encouraging to our young kids on the team. He’s stepped up in every way with the injuries to our main guys. One way I would describe his play is that he’s a Tasmanian devil. He never stops and he only has one speed, which is full speed,” said Brown.
