CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) –  Mayor Kim McMillan attended a student voter registration event at Austin Peay State University on Tuesday, September 25, and thanked the sponsors for their work, which will continue at similar events planned for Friday and Saturday.

Clarksville Indivisible and student groups will conduct a voter registration drive from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, September 28, in the University Center on campus.

The NAACP and TN Civic Campus, which sponsored Tuesday’s event, will conduct another voter registration drive from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, in the lobby of the Castle Heights dormitories.

Mayor McMillan issued a proclamation designating September 25 as National Voter Registration Day in Clarksville.

“Voting is not a partisan issue,” Mayor McMillan said. “We believe with this bipartisan effort, mayors across the country can register and encourage millions of young people to vote and let their voices be heard. By voting, young people are creating a more representative and politically active electorate that can better address problems in our communities and our nation.”

The voter registration deadline is Oct. 9 to be eligible to vote in the Nov. 6 state general and City of Clarksville election.

“Today, as we celebrate National Voter Registration Day, let us carry forward the tradition of promoting voter registration and civic engagement, and recommit to exercising one of the most precious of our democratic rights,” Mayor McMillan’s said in the proclamation. “I hereby proclaim September 25, 2018, as National Voter Registration Day in Clarksville and ask the citizens of Clarksville to observe this day by ensuring they are registered to vote.”
