CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Soon there will be one more homeless person on the streets of Clarksville. Kenny York Founder of Manna Café Ministries is voluntary going homeless now through Dec. 14.
This will be the third time York has taken his “Prove it Clarksville” campaign directly to the community in hopes of waking people up to the problem of homelessness.
York said it’s no secret that at one time he was homeless. “That first night out there, you’re lying there in your car or on your pallet thinking ‘God, what did I do wrong, are you mad at me?’” York said.
York said these people are real people, they are someone’s brother, someone’s sister, and they have names, they have hearts, and they have a past, and it’s not all bad.
The past two times York took to the streets, he spent his nights in a hidden camp and walked each day wearing his “Do You Care” and “Prove It” T-shirt and sign. This time, York says his camp will be in plain sight.
“That way they are going to have to see me, see how people are living when it’s 40 degrees, when it’s 35 degrees. When it’s cold and you’re at home wrapped in your blanket drinking your hot cocoa, what they’re having to put up with,” said York.
