CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to serve 18 years in prison for the murder of a 60-year-old man in Clarksville.
Court documents show that Joshua Chambers was found guilty of second degree murder by a jury and sentenced to 18 years in prison on July 9, 2018.
He was convicted in the fatal shooting of Richard Gibeau in October 2016 at a home at 2151 Watertown Place.
An arrest warrant says police found Chambers kneeling in the driveway of the home. He made statements to officers that indicated his involvement in the shooting and lead them to Gibeau’s body in the backyard. Gibeau was pronounced dead at the scene.
A loaded 9mm pistol was also found in the driveway. Chambers told police he had been in an altercation with Gibeau inside the home and later shot him in the driveway.
Chambers was initially charged with first degree premeditated murder but the charge was later amended in court to second degree murder.
On the day of Chambers’ sentencing, a group of protesters assembled outside the courthouse wearing masks and holding a cross and an upside down flag. The group told a ClarksvilleNow.com reporter they believed Chambers was wrongly convicted. The individuals did not identify themselves.
