CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man has been charged with vehicular homicide in a crash that resulted in the death of a man on a construction lift on Riverside Drive in October 2018.

Police said Robert Bartz, 43, died at Vanderbilt hospital days after the Oct. 19 crash due to injuries he sustained.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Riverside Dr. and College Street and sent five men, including Bartz, to the hospital.

An F-450 truck driven by a 31-year-old Justin L. Clark was traveling south on Riverside Drive through a work area that had cones and a patrol officer stationed to block off the construction area.

Investigators determined Clark failed to drive in the designated lane and and hit the front of the parked patrol car, almost striking on officer at the scene. Clark’s truck then hit a boom lift and scissor lift occupied by workers.

A blood sample showed THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) present in Clark’s system. He was charged with vehicular homicide, four counts of vehicular assault, four counts of aggravated assault, and five counts of reckless endangerment. His bond was set at $150,000.
