CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Cumberland Furnace man was charged with false report after lying to police about why he had a gunshot wound.

According to an arrest warrant, 18-year-old Nicholas Reid Walters reported to officers on July 19 that he had been shot in the knee by an unknown person during a robbery. Walters did in fact have a gunshot wound, but police later discovered the real reason.

A woman told police that she had paid Walters for marijuana and began to walk away, but he called her back to the vehicle. She said when she refused he began shooting at her. As she ran from him an unidentified person returned fire, ultimately shooting Walters in the knee.

After he was read his rights, Walters admitted to officers on the scene that he lied about why he had been shot. Police found a .38 caliber revolver on the scene and Walters admitted that it belonged to him and he shot it. His arrest warrant says he does not have a valid carry permit.

Walters was charged with aggravated assault, false report,and unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $30,000.
