Update, May 23, 2023: Child abuse/neglect charge dismissed against man in 2021 death of 2-month-old

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville man has been arrested on a charge of aggravated child neglect in the death of an infant whose mother was charged in April with the child’s murder.

Marquitis Ridley, 20, was arrested Sept. 11 on the charge, from an indictment that came down in April from the Montgomery County Grand Jury.

The child’s mother, Whitney Brown, was previously arrested on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and neglect.

On Jan. 9, Brown’s 2-month-old child, Kamari Ridley, was transported to Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville and then to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, according to previous reports and court records. The child was unresponsive and had a head injury. Approximately three days later, Kamari died from the injuries.

No further details on the case have been released.

Ridley’s arraignment hearing has been set for Sept. 24.
