CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – This year marks the 31st year of Love Lights a Tree, a fundraising campaign by the American Cancer Society, for support and awareness of the fight against cancer.

Love Lights a Tree is a Clarksville-Montgomery County effort to support cancer research. Members of the community are encouraged to recognize and honor important persons in their lives by donating money to purchase lights in their names for the tree lighting ceremony.

Each year nominations are reviewed by a local committee, and a person is chosen as the honorary chairperson and will be recognized at the Love Lights a Tree event. The person considered for this honor must have had cancer or is currently being treated for cancer.

The nominee may be a child or adult who is a resident of Clarksville-Montgomery County and has inspired others by their dignity and fortitude as they face the challenge of cancer treatment. The choice is based on the individual’s influence on others in the community.

Love Lights a Tree Chairperson, Lynne Griffey, said the honoree remains a secret until their name is revealed at the ceremony.

This year’s Love Lights a Tree will be held Sunday, December 6 at 5 p.m. Griffey added to allow for social distancing, the ceremony will be held outside at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville.

Nominations can be mailed to Lynne Griffey, 1232 Willow Bend Dr., Clarksville, Tennessee 37043 or emailed to lynnegriffeyart@gmail.com by November 1.
