CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A teacher at Kenwood Middle School died over the weekend, becoming the second at a Clarksville-Montgomery County school to pass away over the last month.

Gregory Tramel, 51, was a 6th grade Social Studies teacher. In a message sent out to KMS families Sunday evening, Principal Jeremiah Davis said the school will have additional counselors available to assist students and staff as needed.

“His (Tramel’s) wife Mrs. Dashella, his daughter Shawniqua and his son Shaun could use our support right now. We will have places in the main office, cafeteria and outside of his door for students to place cards, letters and pictures,” Davis said in the message.

Davis also announced the cancellation of afterschool club activities, volleyball practice and girl’s basketball conditioning for Monday.

Christie Litchfield

Tramel is the second CMCSS teacher to die this month. Christie Litchfield, 45, who taught at Woodlawn Elementary School for over 20 years, died on Sept. 6.

In addition to the deaths of Tramel and Litchfield, Principal Davis said another Kenwood Middle teacher is currently hospitalized.

“Please keep Mr. Ferebee and Mrs. Ferebee in your prayers as well, as he is currently having a very difficult time in the hospital,” Davis said in the message.

James Ferebee is the school’s social and emotional learning coordinator, and Jennifer Ferebee is a STEM teacher.

“We are a very strong Knight family, and what makes us strong is each other. Please let us know how we can help you during this challenging time,” Davis continued.

When asked about both teachers’ causes of death, CMCSS Chief Communication Officer Anthony Johnson told Clarksville Now that the school system cannot disclose any employee’s health information.
