CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It won’t be long before Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools will be back in session and the community is getting behind efforts to support students for the upcoming school year with FUEL the Bus.
The family friendly event is free and open to the public on Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Downtown Commons. This is a partnership between the Clarksville Police Community Relations Department, the City of Clarksville, and Montgomery County.
The F.U.E.L. program provides food for children in need. Many children in Clarksville-Montgomery County relay on the meals they receive at school for their main source of food each week and then rely on donated food from F.U.E.L. to help supplement their needs over the weekend.
Non-perishable, nutritional food items are placed in the backpacks of youngsters on Friday before they leave school to help them throughout the weekend. The children are chosen by the teachers and that information is passed on to the F.U.E.L. program.
At FUEL the Bus there will be officers from the Clarksville Police Department, and deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, interacting with the public. The event will also feature law enforcement and emergency vehicles, food trucks, inflatables, and lots of fun activities, especially for children.
Officer Samantha Kellett with the Clarksville Police Department talked about showing support for the F.U.E.L. organization. “All we ask is that instead of paying an admission price, we ask that people bring some sort of item that we can donate to F.U.E.L. and put on the bus,” said Kellett.
Food donations can include items like small cereal boxes, fruit cups, packaged crackers, granola bars, 100% juice boxes, grain bars, trail mix, meat sticks, and pudding cups. By FUEL’ing the Bus, you can give local children a head start on the new school year.
