Story by David Shelton

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A popular local eatery will host its fourth food challenge contest this Saturday, with cash prizes to the contestants. G’s Pancake House, located at 803 Riverside Drive in Clarksville, will use the event to raise money for the War Garden Project. The event will be held Saturday, October 12 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each contestant will attempt to eat two giant 16″ pancakes in the competition. A cash prize will be awarded to the winner.

The War Garden Project is a community organization that uses gardening and horticultural therapy to help soldiers with PTSD. The project was inspired by the Victory Gardens that were planted during the first and second world wars. Their mission, according to their website, is to provide a garden environment to promote healing and rehabilitation and to improve the quality of life for our soldiers and families through hands on experience.

Donations will be accepted throughout the day. Diners are encouraged to make their donations at both locations for G’s. A percentage of the day’s sales will also be donated.

The eating “throwdown” itself will be the 30 minute challenge where each contestant gorges themselves on the two giant pancakes. Each pancake is 16 inches — the size of a large pizza. David Shelton will serve as the emcee for the event.

“I’m excited to see who wins this time around!” Shelton says. “Those things are ginormous. We’re talking carb city, here!”
