CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Subfreezing temperatures caused damage and maintenance issues on APSU’s campus this week.

According to Assistant Director of Communication Charles Booth, at some point between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning a cooling coil cracked in a roof top air handler at APSU’s Kimbrough Building.

“This was likely the direct result of the extreme overnight temperatures but the contributing factors are still being investigated,” Booth said.

Security camera video shows significant water in the first floor lobby at 1:52 a.m., meaning the break happened sometime prior to this.

The main areas affected are the classrooms on the east side of the first and second floors, the Graduate Studies offices and the College of Business departmental offices. The faculty offices on the west side of the lobby appear to be unaffected.

The broken coil was in an air handler on the roof directly over the Graduate Studies offices. The water came through the roof at this location and spread through the east side of the second floor. At several locations the water migrated through the second floor into the first floor. Water also cascaded from the second floor lobby down through the center stairway.

The State of Tennessee Risk Management office and the state contractor for water remediation were contacted to assess the damage and begin repairs.
