At the Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council, our mission is to build a community where people want to visit, live, work and invest. The Made Here in Clarksville video series highlights the companies, people and products that contribute to the strength of our local economy and manufacturing community.
Keeping the world comfortable, one unit at a time
Some companies make products you can see every day. Others quietly make the technology that keeps the places where people live, work, learn and heal comfortable year-round. This month’s spotlight is on Trane, a company that has helped shape Clarksville’s manufacturing story for nearly six decades.
From restaurants and hospitals to schools, hotels, warehouses and office buildings, the commercial heating and cooling systems that keep businesses running often begin their journey in Clarksville. “Trane has been proud to be part of the Clarksville community since 1968,” said Plant Manager Paul Bishop. Trane’s local presence also extends through its membership in the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Built in Clarksville, trusted everywhere
The Clarksville facility produces commercial HVAC systems used by businesses and institutions in a wide range of industries, connecting local manufacturing work to buildings and customers far beyond Montgomery County.
Each commercial HVAC unit begins with precision manufacturing. Pre-painted sheet metal is laser cut, punched and formed into the cabinets that house each unit, while raw copper and aluminum are transformed into coils that play a vital role in the heating and cooling process.

Compressors, fans and refrigerant systems work together to efficiently transfer heat, delivering the reliable performance customers depend on every day.
Before leaving the production floor, every unit undergoes extensive testing to ensure it meets Trane’s rigorous quality and reliability standards.
The Clarksville plant manufactures approximately 100 commercial HVAC units each day across six product lines. With as many as 10,000 configurations available, the facility can build customized systems for a diverse customer base, including retail centers, healthcare facilities, educational campuses, hotels, warehouses and office buildings.

Strengthening Clarksville’s manufacturing economy
Trane’s continued investment in Clarksville reflects the community’s long-standing reputation as a center for advanced manufacturing. Companies across the region rely on a skilled workforce, strategic transportation access and a business-friendly environment to produce products that are shipped throughout the United States and around the world.
“Clarksville-Montgomery County has become one of the premier manufacturing communities in the Southeast because of companies like Trane that continue to invest in our people, our workforce and our future,” said Josh Ward, Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board.
As Clarksville-Montgomery County continues to attract new investment and expand its industrial base, companies like Trane illustrate what Made in Clarksville truly means: products built with precision, powered by a talented workforce and trusted by businesses every day.
