Friends of Dunbar Cave invites filmmakers to an on-site visit Aug. 2 and 3 at 2 p.m. Attending one on-site visit qualifies filmmakers to submit quotes for an upcoming film project. In May 2021, Humanities Tennessee named FODC a recipient of a 2021 general grant for a virtual reality cave tour.
This project entails creating a 360-degree virtual reality film touring Dunbar Cave, making the experience available to those who are unable to participate in a traditional cave tour. A park ranger, archaeologist, and indigenous historian descended from Mississippians will guide the viewers.
The tour views Mississippian dark zone cave art, stoke marks, and previously unprotected, hence vandalized, portions of the cave.
This project is funded in part by a grant from Humanities Tennessee, an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
