FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The 101st Airborne Division held a Division Color Uncasing Ceremony, a Change of Responsibility Ceremony, and Award Ceremonies Friday at Division Headquarters on Friday.

Commander of the 101st and Fort Campbell Maj. Gen. J.P. McGee and 101st Command Sgt. Maj. Veronica Knapp uncased the division colors after their nine-month deployment to Europe. The uncasing represents the return of the 101st Headquarters to Fort Campbell.

In another ceremony Knapp, the Army’s first female command sergeant major, relinquished responsibility to the incoming Command Sgt. Maj. Charles Walker.

McGee said her service was the epitome of a job well done. “Under her exceptional leadership, this division took an incredible and impactable two years. Never one to shy from any challenge, Command Sgt. Maj. Knapp proved in every moment, and in spite of every difficulty, she was equal to the task of guiding this division with incredible skill, experience and thoughtfulness,” he said.

Knapp talked about her time with the 101st. “This is an amazing division. You see and you hear so many things about what this division has accomplished. It’s not until you’re actually here, and you see it for yourself, that you can really feel what it means to be on Fort Campbell and be in the 101st,” she said.

The ceremony included a flyover of four helicopters from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.

Two Honor Eagle Ceremonies were also held Friday to bid farewell to Col. Scott Wilkinson, deputy commanding officer-support; and Col. Jared Bordwell, division chief of staff.
