CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Fort Campbell High School running back Keyshawn Dixon is Clarksville Now’s Player of the Week after his standout performance in the Army Bowl.
Fort Campbell is coming off a convincing 22-6 comeback victory against Fort Knox. The Falcons offense struggled throughout the first half of the game, but Dixon was one bright spot.
The freshman running back found his rhythm going into the half and didn’t look back. Dixon scored twice on the night. His first score came from one yard out to tie the game at 6 points apiece at the beginning of the third quarter.
Dixon’s second touchdown of the night came at the end of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. He finished the contest with a total of 12 carries for 118 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
“I felt like I had to show up in such a big game,” said Dixon. “After we went down in the first half, I really locked into the game and focused on carrying the team on offense.”
2022-23 season
Dixon has compiled 275 all purpose yards during the 2022-23 season. This includes 210 rushing yards and 65 receiving yards through four games.
It’s safe to say that the running back has began to make his mark on the offensive side of the football for the Falcons. Around 56% of his rushing production on the season came this past week.
When discussing the career night with Dixon, the freshmen remained humble and spoke on what his team means to him.
Dixon described his team as a brotherhood, and detailed that his biggest expectation for his team is for the group to keep progressing throughout the season. As for a milestone he’s set for himself, Dixon is hopeful he’ll score a total of 10 touchdowns on the season.
Coach’s corner
“Keyshawn has worked hard since the beginning of the summer and continues to do so,” said Fort Campbell Head Coach Henry Mitchell. “He’s a team player, he works hard, he gives it his all and he is very coachable. It means a lot for him to come in as a freshmen, and lead by example for other underclassmen who are apart of this football team.
“What makes Keyshawn such a special player is his character. He’s a selfless player, and puts team needs before his own. He has a great heart as well and leads our team in prayer during our pre-game meals. Also, he’s a machine. He may be small, but he carries himself with a big stick.”
Mitchell stated that he’s hopeful he’ll have Dixon for the remainder of his high school career, but it’s never guaranteed with how military personnel operates. Nevertheless, the coach credited his player with being a valuable asset to his offense moving forward.
Fort Campbell (2-2) is scheduled to go up against Mayfield High (5-0) as they look to build a two game winning streak. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoff.
