CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A former reserve deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has been indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury after allegedly shooting at another man during a road rage incident.
Police say Samson Peltier, 45, fired shots at an SUV driver who crashed into him and drove away.
The indictment says Peltier is accused of attempting to kill Christopher C. Williams by firing eight shots into his vehicle, striking him in the shoulder and causing “serious bodily injury.”
MCSO spokesperson Sandra Brandon said Peltier was a volunteer who did not receive compensation from the sheriff’s office. His commission was immediately revoked the day of his arrest.
He is now charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and aggravated assault.
The incident occurred July 2 at the intersection of Wilma Rudolph Boulevard and Morris Road.
Peltier had reportedly been rear-ended by a dark-colored Jeep SUV, causing light damage to the rear bumper of his car.
Peltier and the other driver (Williams) got out of their vehicles to look at the damage. When Williams found out the police had been notified, he reportedly got into his Jeep and attempted to flee the scene.
Peltier then reportedly drew his handgun and fired it at the Jeep eight times as it drove away, leaving debris on the roadway.
He was booked into the Montgomery County jail on charges of reckless endangerment at the time.
