CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A former reserve deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has been found guilty of attempted reckless homicide after shooting at another man during a road rage incident in 2015.

Last week a jury found Samson Peltier guilty of one count of aggravated assault, one count of attempted reckless homicide, and once count of reckless endangerment.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 10, 2019.

Police said Peltier fired shots at an SUV driver who crashed into him and drove away.

A previous indictment accused him of attempting to kill the victim by firing eight shots into his vehicle, striking him in the shoulder and causing “serious bodily injury.”

MCSO spokesperson Sandra Brandon said Peltier was a volunteer who did not receive compensation from the sheriff’s office. His commission was immediately revoked the day of his arrest in 2015.

He was initially charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and aggravated assault. The attempted murder charge was reduced to attempted reckless homicide.

The incident occurred July 2, 2015 at the intersection of Wilma Rudolph Boulevard and Morris Road.

Peltier had reportedly been rear-ended by a dark-colored Jeep SUV, causing light damage to the rear bumper of his car.

Peltier and the other driver got out of their vehicles to look at the damage. When the victim found out the police had been notified, he reportedly got into his Jeep and attempted to flee the scene, according to the original report.

Peltier then reportedly drew his handgun and fired it at the Jeep eight times as it drove away, leaving debris on the roadway.
