CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Special Olympics Tennessee will host a Polar Plunge fundraiser to support Special Olympics athletes at the Austin Peay State University Foy Center pool on Saturday, February 2 with registration starting at 10 a.m. and plunging at 11:30 a.m.

At Polar Plunge fundraisers, those participating donate $50 ($30 for children and students) and receive an official long-sleeved Polar Plunge t-shirt, a complimentary lunch, and the opportunity to jump in a pool of cold water to show their support.  All proceeds will support Special Olympics Tennessee and Special Olympics athletes.

The Clarksville Police Department (CPD) has partnered with Special Olympics for the plunge.

“There are over 5 million reasons to support the Polar Plunge, one of the largest fundraisers for Special Olympics. There are more than 5 million Special Olympic athletes in 172 countries,” said CPD public information officer Jim Knoll. “The funds received from Polar Plunge helps to support training, raise awareness, and research.  There are many local athletes supported by Special Olympics, so it is a way for us to give back to the community while helping these athletes fulfill their dreams.  It’s also an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and take on the personal challenge to ‘take the plunge’ and do it for a great cause.”

In further support of the Special Olympics and Polar Plunge, the Clarksville Police Department is having a fundraiser, called “Tip a Cop,” at the O’Charley’s on Riverside Dr. on January 16.  During lunch (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.) and dinner (5-7 p.m.), officers will assist O’Charley’s staff while they serve.  Should patrons wish to donate to Special Olympics, special envelopes will be provided.
